Development, testing and implementation of a Russian cable-stayed system for the construction industry.

Problem and implemented solution

Until 2020, parallel strand cable-stayed systems and equipment installing them from a French and Swiss supplier were used in constructing transport, industrial and civil infrastructure facilities. In 2020, OOO STS developed and tested a domestic cable-stayed system meeting international FIB89 recommendations. Even so, some elements were purchased from foreign suppliers. Russian Highways State Company decided to set up a working group to ensure complete import substitution of cable-stayed system elements. The solution was to mobilise the production and technological capacities of leading major Russian companies with significant experience of developing new products.

The domestic cable-stayed system with foreign elements (cable strands, cable sheath, filler) and domestic anchors, equipment and software has already been successfully applied at the following projects: 1. Construction of a bridge crossing the Zeya River in Blagoveshchensk; 2. Construction of a bridge crossing the Oka River in Murom. The next delivery of the cable-stayed system made of fully domestic components is planned for the first half of 2025. Installation is scheduled for the second half of the same year.

Implementation geography

Production of anchors, wedge clamps, cable sheathing, strand and cable force sensors, dampers, deviators, anti-vandal pipes, of installation equipment and software: STS (Russian Federation); Production of cable strands; Production of cable filler: Russian Federation. The cable-stayed system made of domestic components will be supplied to structures located in the Russian Federation and abroad (countries of Africa and Central Asia, the Republic of Belarus, Iran, UAE, Turkey, India).
