Application Cases of Industrial Solar Steam Technology in Pharmaceutical Plants

Problem and implemented solution

In September 2023, Hainan Shixin Energy Co., Ltd signed an industrial solar steam energy saving renovation and operation management project with Hainan General Kangli Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. The project installed a full set of industrial solar steam supply equipment on the roof of the workshop and boiler room of Hainan General Kangli Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, with the main equipment including gas-fired steam generators, steam storage tanks, industrial solar steam collector arrays, automated on-line monitoring, remote transmission control systems, and ancillary equipment. The project has been officially put into operation in January 2024, with an installation area of 3000 square meters and a power of 0.7 MW per hour. It is expected to generate 1800-2000 tons of steam throughout the year. This technology will help Hainan General Kangli Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd save nearly 170,000 cubic meters of gas and reduce carbon emissions by nearly 628 tonnes per year. The technical features of the project are as follows: 1. The project designed a personalized, integrated solution for energy saving and emission reduction by replacing boilers with industrial solar steam. By developing rooftop solar steam energy and adopting a distributed steam unit that works seamlessly with the project’s original steam supply system, the project achieves the goal of helping companies save energy and reduce emissions; The solar energy system of the project takes industrial solar vacuum tube collector as the carrier. The project makes use of the advantages of good insulation performance of vacuum tube and mature product technology, and independently innovates the core technologies of solar steam heat collection, heat exchange, steam heating and ‘Internet plus’ to make the solar energy system produce steam or other high-temperature media (such as thermal oil, etc.) of 120 ℃ -200 ℃. Then by the Internet temperature control device, for different thermal working condition requirements, the system automatically heated to the corresponding temperature and corresponding pressure to provide personalized comprehensive energy-saving solutions. 2、Seamless tube-wound vacuum tube collector can directly generate steam at 120°C ~ 200°C; Medium-temperature collectors of the miniature linear Fresnel focusing devices are concentrator-type products that can directly generate steam at low irradiance (500 W/m2) and superheated steam at standard irradiance (1,000 W/m2) of 150 to 500°C or more.

Description of competitive advantages

1. The project carries out a comprehensive technical transformation of the traditional boiler on the premise of giving priority to the use of solar steam, so that the solar steam collector system can be seamlessly connected with the traditional boiler, and the energy-saving effect can reach more than 50 per cent. The project adopts multi-energy complementary seamless automation switching to achieve all-weather continuous constant temperature and pressure stable supply of qualified steam, compared with the pre-reform fuel cost savings of 20% to 50%, reducing emissions by more than 40%. 2. Tested by a third-party authority, the project’s steam generating device can directly generate steam at 200°C, with a thermal efficiency of over 65%. 3. The solar energy system of the project takes industrial solar vacuum tube collector as the carrier. The project makes use of the advantages of good insulation performance of vacuum tube and mature product technology, and independently innovates the core technologies of solar steam heat collection, heat exchange, steam heating and ‘Internet plus’ to make the solar energy system produce steam or other high-temperature media (such as thermal oil, etc.) of 120 ℃ -200 ℃. Then by the Internet temperature control device, for different thermal working condition requirements, the system automatically heated to the corresponding temperature and corresponding pressure to provide personalized comprehensive energy-saving solutions. 4. The first investment in industrial-grade solar steam equipment costs six to eight times more than an investment in a traditional boiler, but the operating cost of using it is only 10 to 30 per cent of that of a traditional boiler. Most of the general production-oriented enterprises treat this cost as the unit energy consumption of the ex-factory products and pass it on to the downstream customers, and they pay the heat source usage fee on a monthly basis, which does not cause financial pressure. 5. The system adopts tandem U-shaped vacuum tube solar collector, with 304 food-grade stainless steel pressure tube built in the glass vacuum tube, and adopts heat-conducting oil as the circulating medium, which makes the system’s pressure-bearing performance stronger, and avoids the problem of the whole system leaking and affecting the overall operation due to the bursting of a glass vacuum tube. 6. The cost of generating 1 tonne of steam from traditional fuels (natural gas, coal, biomass, electricity, diesel, etc.) ranges from about 180 yuan to 500 yuan, while the cost of generating 1 tonne of steam from solar energy is less than 80 yuan on average.
