Energy efficient, low carbon reservoir pressure maintenance system using positive displacement pumps action, fiberglass pipes and an automated control system

Problem and implemented solution

The reservoir pressure maintenance system is one of the most expensive areas in oil production. The largest share is occupied by the costs of electricity, the second most important share is the costs of ensuring the operational condition of the pipeline system.

Description of competitive advantages

To create an energy-efficient, reliable, and optimally cost-of-ownership system for injecting fluid into a reservoir, it is necessary not only to “rejuvenate” the linear system, but also to switch to a qualitatively different structure and type of pipelines. The solution is an integrated approach to reconstruct the existing pressure maintenance system. Features of the reconstruction are: ●deployment of highly reliable pipelines and energy-efficient positive displacement pumps; ●optimization of the structure of the linear part of the system; ●adaptability to changing field development requirements (including the use of variable frequency drive pumps) A promising area of application in the pipeline system is the introduction of fiberglass pipes (GRP). The main advantages of pipes made of composite materials in comparison with steel are the standard operation period increased by 2.5 times, the average specific weight by 5-6 times, the carbon footprint reduced by 4.5-6 times, and high installation speed. Also, during constructing composite pipes, the installation of electrochemical protection against soil corrosion is not required and the costs of inhibitory protection against internal corrosion are reduced. Due to the minimal roughness of the inner surface of the pipes, hydraulic losses during liquid transportation are reduced. The energy efficiency of the pressure maintenance system can be increased by using positive displacement pumps. As part of the import substitution program, a line of domestic pumps produced by «Spetstekhnika-Almetyevsk» LLC with a capacity of 125÷2000 m3/day has been developed. The introduction of such pumps allows: ●Provide automatic and remote control of pump operating parameters according to the specified values. ●Reduce the specific energy consumption for pumping 1 m3 of liquid by 2 times in comparison with traditional centrifugal pumps (92 units implemented, economic effect for 2024 – 264.55 million rubles, potential - 2 billion rubles/year). ●Ensure complete independence from the supply of imported pumping equipment («Kamat», «Vepuko», etc.). Replication potential – 350 pumping units. The energy-efficient, low-carbon reservoir pressure maintenance (RPM) system is based on an automated remote monitoring and control system (ASDC). This is a software and hardware complex that provides continuous monitoring and analysis of the state of the processes of the pressure maintenance system. The results of the analysis allow quickly detecting possible deviations in processes and make optimal decisions to eliminate deviations. The system accurately identifies situations that require the attention of experts, thereby reducing the burden on specialists.
