STP water to Green Hydrogen
STP water to Green Hydrogen Project Brief: Green hydrogen is considered pivotal for producing clean energy and Green Fuel, Fertilizer and other value added compounds. Each kg of Hydrogen requires approx. 10 kg of pure water. It is a water and power intensive process. In water stressed country, including India, it will not be prudent to utilise potable water for production of hydrogen. Therefore, a way to utilise STP water for hydrogen generation was taken up through this project. The plant comprises of six units namely a) power supply to the System from solar PV plant, b) Electro Dialysis Reversal (EDR) system, c) Hydrogen generation unit (PEM Electrolyser 6.5 kg/hr X 6hrs), d) hydrogen compression unit, e)Hydrogen storage unit (50 kg at 200 bar), f) fuel cell based power production unit (Fuel cell 25kWe net for 18 hrs) In the present case, STP water from Greater NOIDA authority is being converted to process water through Electro-Dialysis Reversal (EDR) Process. EDR is an Electro-membrane process of water purification having much less power consumption and more yield of pure water which is being used for Electrolysis. The hydrogen so generated is being stored at 200 bar and being used for power generation through fuel cell.

Salient Strength: • This technology can produce Green Hydrogen from STP water – thus eliminating need of high grade water, which is generally scarce. • This technology can be useful in sewage management issues in large cities. • Distributed hydrogen generation can be established for power generation. • Non solar hours power generation can be taken up through hydrogen storage and fuel cell.
