SmartBio

Problem and implemented solution

Nowadays, the Internet and modern IT technologies have made a great contribution to the development of society, and a modern digital economy has emerged. One of the impressive achievements of recent years has been the widespread introduction of marketplaces, which are optimized online platforms for the provision of products and services. Combining IT technologies with biotechnologies in medicine, agriculture, green energy and other branches of modern economy and medicine can form a new branch in the digital economy - bioeconomy. Standardization of a “product” or “service” is a fundamental criterion in the formation of marketplaces. The lack of unified global standards of pre-analytical level of research has prevented the formation of niche marketplaces for R&D and production solutions. However, the biobanking trend that has been developing over the last 20 years has helped to solve the problem by forming a set of uniform rules and recommendations for all researchers and institutions (the concept of network standardized biobanks - “Virtual Biobank”). In addition to the samples themselves, biobanks are a source of a large amount of biomedical data. Their qualitative difference from other databases lies in the uniform standards for their acquisition (biobanking standards). This ensures their uniformity regardless of the center where they were obtained (validated data). Therefore, biobanks are also “BIODATA Banks” (or Digital Biobanks). Consequently, these bases are indispensable for the development of technologies based on BIG DATA analysis, artificial intelligence and bioinformatics. To realize this direction, the SmartBio team has formulated the concept of a Marketplace of R&D, BIODATA and production solutions. Based on the concept, we will create a unified platform that unites all clinical bases and coordinates their work through a project module. In addition to project solutions, the module will integrate unified standards for collection, processing and storage of biomaterial, which will ensure standardization of both biosamples and the data obtained from them. The platform will allow storing any format of data and providing their routing to high-performance computing clusters for the development of algorithms based on BIG DATA analysis, artificial intelligence and bioinformatics. Analysis of ongoing research will allow the creation of both new drugs and the search for bioequivalents of existing ones, while the project module will enable rapid search for a manufacturing base to create a series of products. The integration of regulatory bodies will ensure transparency and safety of all ongoing research and development.

Description of competitive advantages

The SmartBio system is based on the principles of biobanking technology, which has been actively developed over the last 20 years. They include international standards for processing, storage, transportation and research of biomaterial and associated data (biodata). Also, for the first time our system integrated project management technologies, which allows planning, controlling and auditing preclinical, clinical trials and pharmaceutical production according to international standards that are universal for the whole world.
