AI assistant for studying biodiversity
The sustainability of an ecosystem depends on the conservation of biodiversity. Many species are on the verge of extinction, and even more need population monitoring. To date, researchers manually process a large number of photos. There is a need to process up to 1 000 photos per day. The AI assistant of the researcher automatically detects the animal in the photo and assigns it to one of 12 species. AI assistant allows to reduce the number of errors associated with recognizing the kind of animal as well as increase the efficiency of photo processing. It helps scientists to free themselves from the routine work of viewing photos and focus on research and analytical tasks.

1. Сomplex tool for species accounting in Russia includes the following functionality: filtering photos without animals, animal detection and classification into 12 species (himalayan bear, brown bear, wild boar, manchurian wapiti, siberian roe deer, lynx, axis deer, asian badger, sable, common raccoon dog, Far Eastern forest cat, amur tiger) 2. The system will improve the quality of recognition of the necessary animal species while reducing the time-consuming costs of this work. It will be possible to process raw photos by involving less qualified experts 3. Replicability for other animal species accounting and preservation – The AI-based system can be replicated to account and monitor other animal species
