Vasudeva Innovations: BEC Cell Technology for Wastewater Treatment and Energy Generation

Problem and implemented solution

Industries such as textiles and leather tanneries discharge harmful effluents like heavy metals and toxic chemicals into water bodies, leading to severe environmental degradation and public health risks. The current wastewater treatment processes are costly and inefficient, contributing to untreated or poorly treated wastewater contaminating rivers and groundwater. At Vasudeva Innovations, we’ve developed a BioElectrochemical Cell (BEC) Technology that not only treats industrial wastewater but also generates renewable electricity during the process. By converting toxic effluents into clean water and energy, we offer a dual-function solution that’s both environmentally and economically sustainable.

Technologies to improve natural resource extraction

Estimated duration of implementation

We estimate that the full implementation of the technology, including design, testing, and final deployment, takes approximately 1 year and 6 months. This includes 3 months for prototype testing and 16 hours per day operation for pilot projects.

Implementation geography

We plan to implement our solution across India, starting with industrial hubs in Tamil Nadu, which face severe pollution from textile and leather tanneries. Over time, we aim to expand our solution to other regions in India and Southeast Asia where industrial wastewater pollution is a significant issue.

Description of competitive advantages

Description of Competitive Advantages: 1. Cost-Effective: Our BEC Cell Technology reduces wastewater treatment costs from $3.5/m³ to $1.5/m³, making it significantly more affordable than traditional methods, especially for small- and medium-sized enterprises. 2. Energy Generation: Unlike conventional systems, our solution generates renewable electricity during the treatment process, offering an energy-positive approach that offsets operational costs and reduces reliance on external power sources. 3. Scalability & Flexibility: The technology can handle 1,000 liters/day to 100,000 liters/day, providing a modular solution that adapts to industries of all sizes, from small plants to large-scale operations. 4. Low Footprint & Easy Installation: Our system has a 3x smaller footprint than conventional treatment technologies, making it more space-efficient and easily installable, even in industries with limited space. 5. Sustainability: By addressing key environmental challenges such as heavy metal contamination and industrial effluent, our solution contributes to sustainable industrial practices while meeting stringent environmental standards.
