Quality Drive

Problem and implemented solution

Road accidents kill over 1.35 million people each year, are one of the six highest causes of disability (WHO) and 93 % of these fatalities are concentrated in low-and middle-income countries like India and Brazil. The World Health Organization found that South African cities are more prone to traffic accidents with approximately a million road-traffic accidents each year, they are amongst the most dangerous roads in the world. BRICS already account for approximately 20% of the world’s deaths from road traffic injuries and the associated economic losses estimated at 1 to 3% of gross domestic products . The severity of injuries sustained resulting from road traffic crashes has a significant impact on the South African public health system and economy. A person living in one of the BRICS countries is at a relatively high risk of having a fatal road traffic injury because of one or more – often avoidable – risk factors. There is a paucity of nationally representative and systematically collected data on the risk factors for road traffic injuries in BRICS. This gap in knowledge needs to be filled quickly. At Quality Drive we provide a solution to address this pressing problem. The QDrive platform: - Uses machine learning technology to collect data on driver behaviour on the road (speed, braking, acceleration, over taking etc.)

Description of competitive advantages

-Track driving style (a screen for the driver, sign up and be able to track their driving) . -Help mitigate the consequences of drink driving because it does provide notification when driving too slowly or over the speed limit. -Voice assist Q Bot/ QDrive Bot; can also track driving in silence and shows on the screen, guiding a person through their journey within the safety standards. -Reduce insurance premiums with partner companies ( insurance companies ) based on their driving data. -Data can be used to study and compare performance across different vehicle brands also help identify the problem with driver behaviour and Toyota Quantum. -If the vehicle is unstable on the road, have a way to communicate that to the driver to alert the driver. -The AI engine will inform the driver if they are driving too fast, slow or above the speed limit. -AI voice can be turned on to guide the driver through their journey, within the safety standards. -Driver profile accessible to the vehicle owner and driver (to understand driver performance or attend to a query/incident. -Driver can use the driver profile to prove his competency when searching for new employment. -Data will be commercialized to research institutions, universities, vehicle manufacturing companies etc. -Can use the data to study the performance of vehicles under different scenarios.

List of scientific works and IP connected with the Practice

Three papers have been submitted for publication, and I am first author in all three and currently attending to reviewers comments. Two of the papers are accepted by the International Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems Research. 1) Agent based modelling and simulation approach to identify the key influential factors for satisfaction of public transport users in disadvantaged neighbourhoods. 2)Qualitative and Quantitative Assessment of Public Minibus Taxi Driving. 3)Machine Learning Analysis of Informal Minibus Taxi Driving I am currently in talks with lawyers at Adams and Adams, Durban offices to assess the IP. I am the only shareholder and sole owner of any probable IP.
