AI-powered digital solution for proactive management of cardiovascular patients in Tula region, Russia

Problem and implemented solution

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) remain the leading cause of mortality in Russia, with the Tula region specifically reporting 648 deaths per 100,000 individuals due to these conditions. Within a population of approximately 1.24 million, around 425,000 residents are affected by cardiovascular diseases. Notably, 316,000 individuals suffer from arterial hypertension, yet only 42.9% of men and 53.7% of women undergoing antihypertensive therapy achieve their target blood pressure levels. Furthermore, 77,000 individuals are diagnosed with coronary artery disease (CAD), but a mere 20.7% of these patients reach their target LDL cholesterol levels. To address these challenges, a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) has been developed, which creates a digital twin of each patient utilizing data from electronic medical records (EMR). This innovative system automatically assesses cardiovascular risk, monitors the achievement of health targets, and suggests drug therapy according to clinical guidelines. The CDSS employs advanced algorithms to analyze patient data, providing healthcare professionals with actionable insights to enhance patient management. By identifying patients at high risk and tracking their progress towards health goals, the system facilitates proactive interventions and personalized treatment plans. This approach not only aims to improve clinical outcomes but also strives to optimize the overall efficiency of healthcare delivery in the Tula region.

Description of competitive advantages

Comprehensive Patient Risk Assessment The MedicBK CDSS employs eight risk assessment scales and monitors 17 parameters related to treatment goals, providing a thorough evaluation of each patient's cardiovascular risk profile. This allows for targeted interventions and personalized treatment plans. AI-Powered Predictions One of the standout features of the MedicBK CDSS is its ability to predict critical health indicators such as LDL cholesterol levels and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) with over 80% accuracy, even when test results are missing from the electronic health record (EHR). This enables proactive diagnosis and earlier initiation of appropriate therapies. Digitized Clinical Guidelines By integrating five digitized clinical guidelines into the CDSS, healthcare providers can easily access evidence-based recommendations at every stage of patient care. This ensures adherence to best practices and promotes consistent, high-quality care. Improved Patient Outcomes The implementation of the MedicBK CDSS has led to significant improvements in patient management efficiency. Most notably, there has been a 24% increase in patients reaching target blood pressure levels, translating to an additional 18,507 patients achieving this important health goal. Time-Saving for Healthcare Providers The MedicBK CDSS reduces the time required for data analysis from 20 minutes to just 2 minutes, allowing healthcare professionals to focus more on patient care rather than administrative tasks. This time-saving feature enables physicians to see more patients and optimize their workflows. Scalability and Replicability The MedicBK CDSS has already been implemented in the Tula region, with plans to expand to 500,000 patients across six regions by Q4 2024. This scalability demonstrates the system's ability to be replicated in other areas, making it an attractive solution for healthcare systems looking to improve cardiovascular disease management. The MedicBK CDSS represents a cutting-edge solution that leverages artificial intelligence to enhance the management of cardiovascular patients.
